-ReeD's LaKe-
me and some of the sophomore girls went with the boys of 3rd boer to reed's lake. reed's lake is this very picturesque lake with park benches and pathways in gaslight village. gaslight village is quaint and cute and meant to walked, not driven. while the others started a round of bocce ball, tina and i walked to starbucks and then back to the park. we talked about how our families are far away (she's from FL) and watched them play. then we joined a 10-12 man game of frisbee, although it was really just throwing the frisbee back and forth. then they set up a game of hillbilly golf with is played with two golf balls attached by cord that are thrown towards a ladder. the goal, apparently, is to land on one of the three bars. i just watched. and then we walked down to jersey junction--which is legendary in grand rapids for its ice cream. i got play dough ice cream--bright aqua blue with cookie dough chunks in forest green, fire engine red, and sunny yellow. it felt just like eating playdough and it made me feel like i was five again. i'm trying really hard to be myself and more outspoken at these kinds of things, especially with the boys. i want to be a person that's fun to hang out with, fun to know. i hope i'm not freaking people out ^~^

this is a common practice here at calvin. your floor picks pieces from different songs and then goes around serenading dorms of the opposite gender. it went kinda like this: run, scream, yell "Hey ____!", and then start singing. we chose to wear sunglasses for the first part (keep in mind it was 10pm) and sing the first verse from "sunglasses at night" with jenny accompanying us on the violin. then we threw off the sunglasses and yelled, "just kidding!" and launched into "stand by me." we always finished with "sweet dreams, love third noordy!" i got a kick out of it, especially when the guys opened their windows and shouted that they loved us or that they'd stand by us. it was so funny. and then we ran into 3rd huizenga (boys) in the parking lot and they sang a beautiful rendition of "can you feel the love tonight"--the whole thing! they had two awesome asian guys who sang loudest and one was singing harmony! woohoo! and then they handed us fake flowers at the end (we think they planned it). for our brother floor, 3rd werp, we sang part of "we are going to be friends." all in all, an awesome activity.

we got all dolled up--i wore my prom dress--and went downtown with 3rd werp to the amway grand, a very fancy hotel. the boys were in full 'regalia'--slacks, button down shirts, ties, and some had coats. we sat in a corner of the dining room and ordered dessert ($7!). i had shimla, which is a small, round chocolate cake with hard chocolate icing filled with chai mousse and topped with a mini-scoop of green tea gelatto--yum! so, lots of fun--dressing up always is--and cute boys! our car on the way back had 6 people in a two-door. joe had to ride curled up in the trunk (it was connected to the back seat) and he rapped and recited a beautiful love sonnet for us backseat girls. it was really pretty. and adam, the driver, he was pretty cool too. i wonder why boys are so scared to talk to freshmen girls?
TA DA! i'm keeping on top of this!
